This 3-day intro to Ghana provides an intimate, absorbing, and inspiring encounter with the people, history, and culture of Ghana as you have always wanted to perceive it. The coastal region of Ghana is a stunning contrast to the bustling city of Accra. Head south to Elmina and Cape Coast with a visit to the old slave forts 

Cap up your Ghana experience with an adventure through the tropical rainforest and take the canopy walkway at Kakum National Park where you can enjoy the exhilarating experience of walking from treetop to treetop!

Itineraries

DAY 1

ARRIVAL IN ACCRA

Arrive in Accra; meet assist and transfer to the hotel.

Depending on your flight arrival time the following sites may be visited today.

Begin the city tour of Accra, and go on a scenic drive through the beautiful and vast campus of the University of Ghana, Legon.

Visit Jamestown Community-One of Accra’s most historic neighborhoods where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today.

Experience the hustle and bustle of the Fish Market at the seashore as fishermen dock their boats and fishmongers sell their catch.

Late afternoon visit to the Brazil House, to learn about the seven Afro-Brazilian families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. Familiar Brazilian/Portuguese last names such as De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, Da Costa, Santos, De Medeiros, and Olympio are abundant in this section of Accra.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 2

ACCRA-CAPE COAST-ELMINA

After breakfast drive to Cape Coast – En route visit Independence Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African Liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artifacts, and insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life. Continue to Cape Coast arriving in time for lunch. Late afternoon visit Cape Coast Castle a UNESCO World Heritage site which was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. The Castle is home to the “Door of No Return”.

This evening goes on a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina. At the harbor view the colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing. This is a picture-perfect opportunity for photographers.

DAY 3

ELMINA – KAKUM NATIONAL PARK- ACCRA DEPART

After breakfast, visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds, and butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forest's over 40 species of mammals, including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Kakum is famous for Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.

You may visit Global Mama’s where you will have a workshop. The Global Mama’s seeks to create wealth for African women and their families. Here you can design and make a beautiful Tye-Dye cloth as a takeaway souvenir.

Early evening return to Accra; rest of the evening at leisure or transfer to the airport for your onward flight
